What Should I Expect?


Whether you choose hypnotherapy for help with addictions, such as smoking or food, or for an emotional issue such as a fear of public speaking, general feelings of anxiety or help in overcoming a specific trauma, the sessions will begin in the same way. You will be helped into a state of deep relaxation of both mind and body. From this state of deep relaxation, called “trance”, Teresa will help you to access your subconscious mind in order to address your own specific problem or need. It is important to realise that you will be in control of yourself at all times during the treatment. Forget the stories about people being controlled by the Hypnotist and being “forced” to do something (cluck like a chicken seems to be the favourite example). These stories are simply not true.

 

When you are completely relaxed your subconscious mind is able to retrieve memories that you may have been unaware of, and to begin to work in a positive way to change behaviours and thought patterns that are detrimental to you. 


Teresa will spend some time with you before the session, talking about what you wish to achieve. They will then use a variety of techniques to replace negative or damaging thoughts with positive ones. When you are gently brought out of deep relaxation you may be given a few simple techniques that will allow your subconscious mind to immediately access these new, helpful behaviours so that you can change your everyday life for the better whenever you wish to. 

Can Hypnotherapy Help with Anything?


It would be foolish to claim that any non-surgical intervention can mend a broken limb or rid the body of a specific disease. However, the pain that accompanies a physical trauma can be greatly eased with Hypnotherapy, and the anxiety we feel when we are sick can be alleviated by getting ourselves into a more helpful mind-set. 


Where Hypnotherapy achieves the most dramatic results is in the field of the mind-body connection. Traumas, both old and recent, manifest in the physical body as well as in the mind, often with quite unpleasant results for the sufferer. Phobias, especially those that seem to have no rational basis, can cause misery in a person’s everyday life. 


Hypnotherapy can often eradicate a phobia in just one session.
